ST. AUGUSTINE SCHOOL DRESS CODE

St. Augustine School has a dress code that helps to create an atmosphere that is conducive to learning – free of the distractions that clothing choices can create.  The Uniform Holiday guidelines are designed to aid students and parents in choosing clothing that would be appropriate for these days and for special occasions.  Whenever a student is wearing a St. Augustine School uniform, he/she is a representative of our school and what we stand for – a quality, Christ-based education.  St. Augustine School uniforms should be worn with pride!

All uniform items (slacks, shirts, shorts, jumpers, skorts and skirts) must match the styles specified.

Plaid jumpers and skirts must be “Confetti” plaid by Schoolbelles or “Classic Blue Plaid” by Lands End.

GIRLS (K-3)

 

· Plaid jumper available through Schoolbelles or Lands End, no more than 3 inches from the floor when kneeling.

 

GIRLS (4-8)

 

· Plaid culottes, skirts, or flat front 2 panel skorts, no more than 3 inches from the floor when kneeling.

BOYS

K – 5: Navy pants, including mid-rise pants, or shorts.  Fabric may be twill, chino, corduroy, or wool.  No elastic or pegged ankles are acceptable, nor are baggies, low-rise pants, cargo pants. No cargo pockets, rivets, snaps or other decorations. Blue jean style pants are not acceptable.  Shorts must be “walking short” length (no more than 3 inches from the floor when kneeling.).

 

K – 5: Navy pants or shorts. Fabric may be twill, chino, corduroy, or wool. No cargo pockets, rivets, snaps or other decorations. · K – 5: White or red knit (polo) shirts, turtlenecks or long or short sleeved oxford cloth.  All shirts must be turtleneck or have a collar.  Shirts must be full cut and loose fitting. Shirts must be tucked in.

· 6-8:  White, navy, hunter green or red shirts.  Shirts must be full cut and loose fitting. Fabrics and styles as named above.  Shirts must be tucked in.

GIRLS and BOYS

· K – 8: Athletic shoes or dress shoes with socks.  Sandals with back straps (in warm weather).  Socks are not necessary with sandals. “Crocks” are no longer considered sandals and so, cannot be worn with uniforms.

· K – 5: White or navy socks (or tights for girls) are required with shoes.

· St. Augustine spirit wear sweatshirts or vests.  Fleece vests with logo available through Schoolbelles.

· K – 8: Plain navy, black or brown belts are highly recommended if pants or shorts have belt loops.  Belts help keep shirts tucked in.

 

Jewelry:  Boys are not allowed earrings of any kind.  Girls are allowed one pair, to be in ear lobes.  No ear cuffs or multiple piercing are allowed.

· A necklace with a cross or a religious medal may be worn.

· Earrings should be posts, not hanging below the earlobe.

· One ring and one watch are allowed.

One “cause” bracelet may be worn.

Make-Up:  Girls K-5 are not allowed to wear make-up, including lip gloss with color, or nail polish.  Girls 6-8 may wear light make-up, but no nail polish.

Hair: Hair is to be a natural color and a style that does not draw attention to the student.

 

Parents are an important part in helping to enforce the dress code.  Please help us by seeing that your child is appropriately dressed before he/she leaves for school.  The school’s staff reserves the right to make judgment on proper attire and appearance appropriate for St. Augustine School.

 

Consequences for Dress Code Violations:

                 1st time: Dress Code Violation Notice sent home.

                 2nd time:  Loss of the next uniform holiday.

 

Additional guidelines:

· Clothing must not be cut, torn, patched, stained, or faded.

· All clothing must be worn in a modest manner (not clinging, baggy, or ill-fitting) befitting the character of the school.

· Hair tie backs, barrettes, clips and ribbons are to be used primarily for hair management rather than decoration.

· Gym Clothes:  Students in grades K-8 need not change for gym, but must wear tennis shoes.  We suggest all girls wear pants or shorts on days that PE is scheduled, or that they wear shorts under their skirts and jumpers.

· Dress-Up Days (as indicated on school calendar or note home):   Students are to wear clothes which are appropriate for a special event.  Sweatpants, sweatshirts, and jean items are not appropriate for Dress-Up Days.

Uniform Holidays are generally the first Friday of each month, or as noted on the monthly calendar. The following are not acceptable to wear on a uniform holiday:

Tank tops of any kind. (Sleeveless T-shirts are acceptable.)

Hemlines shorter than 3 inches from the floor when kneeling.

T-shirts with inappropriate messages or promotions

Hats

Anything that exposes the midriff
